The 2012 Fast Pitch Softball Team from Christian Academy in Sidney, OH only had 10 team members this year. It takes 9 to play. This was the first year for playing fast pitch softball for half the girls. They were an inspiration to everyone who saw them play. They have a player with one arm, a pitcher who played injured, some struggled to keep their grades at a C or better to be eligible to play, they played teams from much larger schools and not only did they not loose every game, they made it to the final 4. Then 2 teams pulled out and the tournament was canceled.
So when the number one seated team said come play us. We went. I wish I could say David beat Goliath, that it was a slaughter. It sort of was, but we lost.
But you couldn't tell they had lost when we went out to eat before driving the hour and a half back home. The only tears came from our senior, (the injured pitcher) because this was her last game, the community college she will be attending this fall doesn't have a softball team. They had faced all kinds of difficulties during the season, but they never gave up.
I personally don't know much about sports. But I do know these young ladies are winners. They prayed together, played together, encouraged each other, supported each other, and inspired all who saw them play. No, David didn't beat Goliath this time, but the team is young, and with their character I wouldn't want to be Goliath next year.
